Most recently, Cristi joined the Blue Star of Hope Foundation on the Power of One trip to Thailand as a teen mentor and artist to lead their annual mural project.  They traveled to Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Ban Krut.  The trip was part play and part work.  After visiting Buddhist temples, celebrating New Year’s Eve at Chiang Mai Plaza, giving aums to the monks at sunrise, and receiving a New Year’s blessing at the infamous Doi Suthep Temple, they got to work.

The Power of One Project focuses on oneness, conservation, and global community.  One of the volunteer projects was to create a 120 ft. long mural at the Ban Hin Turn Elementary School.  About 40 teens and mentors created this mural, leaving a written message to the children in their Thai language.  The mural reads, “What Is Your Dream?”

“Thailand is the most peaceful and endearing place I have ever been.  To leave behind a mural, a piece of art that truly has meaning behind it, was really amazing to me,” says Cristi.

The mural was created with the help of about 40 other mentors and teens from Thailand and America.  The Power of One Program is now expanding to connect with other countries like Africa, but will continue to visit Thailand annually.  Any teens interested in traveling with the Power of One program can get more info at  www.bluestarofhope.org and also www.elephantnaturepark.org

Cristi B. Fine Art also supports Pennies For Peace Foundation, a global non profit founded by Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea.   It began with American children collecting pennies at school to give to other primary schools in impoverished nations to directly fund educational programs.  ..Kids giving to kids. Pennies for Peace teaches children the rewards of sharing and working together to bring hope and educational opportunities to children in Pakistan and Afghanistan. A penny in the United States is virtually worthless, but in other parts of the world, this money goes a long way and opens the door to literacy.

The mission of Central Asia Institute (CAI) focuses on community-based education, especially for girls. A 5th grade education for girls improves not only the basic indices of health for her and her family, but she will also spread the value of education within her community.  To participate, visit www.PenniesForPeace.org
